Old stone.
A new chapter.

A considered restoration has made Petrarolo a comfortable private house while preserving the character of its historic architecture.

Working with the building

The restoration respected the masseria’s architectural integrity. Vaulted ceilings, pale stone, the sheltered courtyard and seventeenth-century chapel remain central to its identity.

Modern comforts sit within the historic fabric, rather than overwhelming it.

A collaborative project

Local architects Simone & Musa worked with London-based Tully Filmer and interior designers Alexander Waterworth on the project.

The result brings together local building knowledge and a distinctive approach to interiors.

A house for living together

Nine en suite bedrooms are complemented by generous living and dining rooms, kitchens and quieter places to retreat. The hammam and a garden swimming pool add different ways to unwind.

Inside and out

The house opens into courtyards, terraces and gardens, with farmland beyond. The restoration is best experienced through the changing light, the texture of stone and the flow between rooms and landscape.

Modern comfort within historic stone

Solar photovoltaic generation, an estate microgrid and air-source heat pumps support the house’s heating and cooling. Outside, landscaped gardens and panoramic terraces connect the substantial masseria with mature olive groves.

The nearby Trullo Petrarolo carries the same approach to restoration into a self-contained traditional residence with its own garden and pool.
